Battle Buddy - Terms of Use

BATTLE BUDDY TERMS OF USE

Effective Date: June 17, 2026

Welcome to Battle Buddy, a mobile application and digital resource provided by VETLIFE (“VETLIFE,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Battle Buddy mobile application, web-based features associated with Battle Buddy, and related services (collectively, “Battle Buddy” or the “App”).

By downloading, accessing, or using Battle Buddy, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Battle Buddy Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use Battle Buddy.

1. ABOUT BATTLE BUDDY

Battle Buddy is a free resource designed to help veterans, military families, spouses, caregivers, and others navigate benefits, resources, wellness tools, and support.

Battle Buddy may provide access to information and resources relating to areas including, but not limited to:

Federal and state veteran benefits and programs;
Healthcare and healthcare resources;
Housing and financial resources;
Employment and workforce development;
Education benefits and resources;
Caregiver and family support;
Veteran and military family organizations;
Wellness and resilience tools;
Support resources;
Government and nonprofit resources;
Community resources and events; and
Other resources that may be useful to veterans and their families.

Battle Buddy may also include interactive or automated features, including Chat with Sam, wellness tools, and other features that may be added, modified, or discontinued over time.

Battle Buddy is provided at no cost to users. VETLIFE reserves the right to modify, add, suspend, or discontinue features of Battle Buddy at any time, subject to applicable law.

2. INDEPENDENT FROM GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

Battle Buddy is developed and operated by VETLIFE, an independent nonprofit organization.

References to government agencies, programs, benefits, services, forms, websites, or resources are provided for informational and resource-navigation purposes.

VETLIFE does not represent or act on behalf of any government agency.

3. ELIGIBILITY

Battle Buddy is intended for users who are at least 13 years old.

If you are under 18, you should use Battle Buddy with the knowledge and involvement of a parent or legal guardian.

Battle Buddy is not directed to children under 13. Information about our collection, use, disclosure, and protection of information is provided in the Battle Buddy Privacy Policy.

4. INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY

Battle Buddy provides information, tools, and resources intended to make programs and services easier to understand and navigate.

Information available through Battle Buddy may not always be complete, current, accurate, or applicable to your individual circumstances.

Benefits, eligibility requirements, laws, regulations, programs, deadlines, contact information, available services, and other resources may change without notice.

VETLIFE does not guarantee that information provided through Battle Buddy is complete, current, accurate, or applicable to your particular circumstances.

You are responsible for verifying important information directly with the applicable government agency, organization, qualified professional, or service provider before making decisions or taking action.

Battle Buddy does not determine whether you qualify for any benefit, program, service, healthcare coverage, financial assistance, or other resource.

5. NO LEGAL, MEDICAL, FINANCIAL, BENEFITS, OR OTHER PROFESSIONAL ADVICE

Information and resources available through Battle Buddy are provided for general informational and educational purposes.

Nothing available through Battle Buddy constitutes or should be understood as:

Legal advice;
Medical advice;
Mental-health treatment or clinical advice;
Diagnosis or treatment;
Financial or investment advice;
Tax advice;
Insurance advice;
Accredited benefits representation;
A determination of eligibility for benefits or services; or
Any other professional advice.

Use of Battle Buddy does not create a physician-patient, therapist-patient, attorney-client, financial-advisor, benefits-representative, or other professional relationship between you and VETLIFE.

You should consult an appropriately qualified professional or the applicable government agency or service provider regarding your individual circumstances.

6. WELLNESS AND SUPPORT FEATURES

Battle Buddy may provide wellness tools, self-reported check-ins, breathing exercises, journaling tools, educational materials, and other resources intended to support general wellbeing and resilience.

These resources are intended for informational, educational, and general wellness purposes. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, medical condition, or mental-health condition.

Battle Buddy is not an emergency service and does not provide emergency, medical, psychiatric, psychological, or clinical mental-health services.

If you are experiencing an emergency, believe you or another person may be in immediate danger, or require urgent medical or mental-health assistance, call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or contact an appropriate emergency or crisis service.

Do not rely on Battle Buddy as a substitute for emergency services, professional medical care, mental-health treatment, or other qualified professional assistance.

7. CHAT WITH SAM AND AUTOMATED FEATURES

Battle Buddy may include Chat with Sam and other automated or artificial-intelligence-powered features.

Chat with Sam is an automated system. It is not a human VETLIFE representative, counselor, therapist, healthcare provider, attorney, financial professional, accredited benefits representative, or government representative.

Chat with Sam and similar features are designed to provide general information, guidance, resource navigation, and support.

Automated or AI-generated responses may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, inappropriate, or inapplicable to your particular circumstances. Such responses should not be treated as professional advice, a determination of benefits eligibility, or a substitute for qualified human assistance.

You should independently verify important information before relying on it, particularly information concerning healthcare, benefits eligibility, legal matters, finances, safety, deadlines, or other significant decisions.

Do not rely on Chat with Sam or any other automated Battle Buddy feature for emergency assistance or crisis intervention.

Information you choose to provide through Chat with Sam or other interactive features may be processed as described in the Battle Buddy Privacy Policy.

8. THIRD-PARTY RESOURCES AND SERVICES

Battle Buddy may provide links, contact information, referrals, directories, or other access to resources operated by third parties, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, businesses, educational institutions, employers, and other organizations.

VETLIFE may evaluate or identify resources for possible inclusion in Battle Buddy. However, unless expressly stated otherwise, the inclusion of a third-party resource does not constitute an endorsement, certification, guarantee, or representation by VETLIFE concerning that organization or any product, service, information, eligibility determination, or outcome it may provide.

VETLIFE does not control third-party organizations, websites, applications, products, services, policies, eligibility requirements, availability, security practices, or privacy practices.

Your interactions with a third party are between you and that third party.

You should review the applicable third party's terms, privacy policy, eligibility requirements, and other applicable policies before providing personal information or using its services.

9. INFORMATION YOU CHOOSE TO PROVIDE

Battle Buddy does not require users to create an account or login to access the App generally.

Certain features may allow you to voluntarily provide information, including through forms, feedback tools, wellness features, Chat with Sam, or other interactive functionality.

You are responsible for the information you choose to provide and should avoid submitting information that is unnecessary for the feature or resource you are using.

VETLIFE's collection, use, disclosure, retention, and protection of information provided through Battle Buddy are described in the Battle Buddy Privacy Policy and Battle Buddy Data Deletion.

10. USER CONTENT

Battle Buddy may allow you to submit, enter, transmit, or otherwise provide information, messages, responses, feedback, or other content (“User Content”).

You retain any ownership rights you may have in User Content that you provide.

By submitting User Content through Battle Buddy, you authorize VETLIFE and its service providers to host, store, process, transmit, and otherwise use that User Content to the extent reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, and provide the applicable Battle Buddy feature, subject to the Battle Buddy Privacy Policy and applicable law.

You represent that you have the right to provide User Content you submit and that your submission and use of that content through Battle Buddy do not violate applicable law or the rights of another person.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to grant VETLIFE ownership of your User Content.

11. RESPONSIBLE USE

You agree to use Battle Buddy only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.

You may not:

Use Battle Buddy to violate applicable law or regulation;
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to Battle Buddy, its systems, or another person's information;
Interfere with or disrupt the operation, integrity, or security of Battle Buddy;
Introduce viruses, malicious code, or other harmful material;
Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise obtain source code except to the extent such restrictions are prohibited by law;
Scrape, systematically collect, reproduce, or commercially exploit information from Battle Buddy without authorization;
Impersonate another person or organization;
Submit fraudulent, deceptive, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or unlawful content;
Use Battle Buddy to harass, threaten, exploit, or harm another person;
Knowingly provide false or fraudulent information for the purpose of improperly obtaining benefits, services, or resources; or
Use Battle Buddy in a manner that materially interferes with another person's ability to use the App.

VETLIFE may take reasonable action, including restricting access to particular functionality, when we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated or action is necessary to protect Battle Buddy, VETLIFE, users, or third parties.

12. SAFETY AND USER RESPONSIBILITY

Battle Buddy is intended to make information and resources easier to find and navigate. You remain responsible for decisions you make based on information obtained through Battle Buddy.

You should verify important information directly with the applicable organization, government agency, service provider, or qualified professional.

13. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Battle Buddy and its contents, including its software, design, graphics, logos, trademarks, text, features, functionality, Chat with Sam, and other materials, are owned by VETLIFE and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

Except as expressly permitted by these Terms or applicable law, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, license, publish, create derivative works from, or otherwise commercially exploit Battle Buddy or VETLIFE-owned content without prior written permission from VETLIFE.

“VETLIFE,” “Battle Buddy,” and associated VETLIFE logos and branding are trademarks, service marks, or other protected identifiers of VETLIFE, as applicable.

Third-party names, trademarks, logos, and service marks displayed through Battle Buddy remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance in Battle Buddy does not necessarily indicate sponsorship, endorsement, or affiliation.

14. APP UPDATES AND AVAILABILITY

VETLIFE may update, modify, suspend, or discontinue all or part of Battle Buddy or any particular feature at any time, subject to applicable law.

We do not guarantee that Battle Buddy or any particular feature will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

Battle Buddy may become temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, updates, technical issues, internet or telecommunications problems, third-party service interruptions, cybersecurity events, or circumstances beyond VETLIFE's reasonable control.

15. NO GUARANTEE OF RESULTS

VETLIFE does not guarantee that use of Battle Buddy will result in obtaining any particular benefit, service, healthcare outcome, employment opportunity, financial assistance, housing resource, education benefit, or other result.

Eligibility determinations, services, and outcomes are controlled by the applicable government agency, organization, healthcare provider, employer, educational institution, service provider, or other third party.

16. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BATTLE BUDDY AND THE CONTENT, FEATURES, INFORMATION, TOOLS, AND SERVICES MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH IT ARE PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, VETLIFE DISCLAIMS WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AND AVAILABILITY, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY.

VETLIFE does not warrant that Battle Buddy will be uninterrupted, error-free, completely secure, or free from viruses or other harmful components.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits warranties or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

17. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, VETLIFE AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, CONTRACTORS, AFFILIATES, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO BATTLE BUDDY OR THESE TERMS, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY AND EVEN IF VETLIFE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE FOREGOING LIMITATIONS APPLY TO CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO: (A) YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE BATTLE BUDDY; (B) YOUR RELIANCE ON INFORMATION, RESOURCES, GUIDANCE, OR AUTOMATED OR AI-GENERATED RESPONSES MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH BATTLE BUDDY; (C) ERRORS, OMISSIONS, INACCURACIES, INTERRUPTIONS, DELAYS, OR UNAVAILABILITY OF BATTLE BUDDY; AND (D) THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES, ORGANIZATIONS, PRODUCTS, SERVICES, OR RESOURCES ACCESSED, REFERENCED, OR IDENTIFIED THROUGH BATTLE BUDDY, IN EACH CASE TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, VETLIFE'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO BATTLE BUDDY OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages or liabilities. Accordingly, some of the limitations above may not apply to you.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.

18. INDEMNIFICATION

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless VETLIFE and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, affiliates, and service providers from third-party claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and reasonable expenses arising directly from:

Your material violation of these Terms;
Your unlawful or intentional misuse of Battle Buddy;
User Content you submit in violation of applicable law or another person's rights; or
Your violation of another person's rights.

This section does not require you to indemnify VETLIFE for claims arising from VETLIFE's own conduct to the extent such an obligation would be prohibited by applicable law.

19. SUSPENSION OR TERMINATION OF ACCESS

You may stop using Battle Buddy at any time.

VETLIFE may suspend or restrict access to Battle Buddy or particular features when we reasonably believe a user has violated these Terms, engaged in unlawful or harmful conduct, compromised the security or operation of Battle Buddy, or created a material risk to VETLIFE, users, or third parties.

Provisions that by their nature should survive termination or cessation of use will remain effective, including provisions concerning intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and governing law.

20. PRIVACY

Your privacy is important to VETLIFE.

The Battle Buddy Privacy Policy describes the categories of information Battle Buddy may collect, how information may be used and disclosed, the service providers that may process information on VETLIFE's behalf, applicable retention practices, available choices and controls, and procedures for submitting privacy or deletion requests.

Please review the Battle Buddy Privacy Policy carefully. The Privacy Policy should be read together with these Terms.

21. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS

VETLIFE may update these Terms periodically to reflect changes to Battle Buddy, applicable law, technology, our practices, or other circumstances.

When these Terms are updated, we will revise the Date displayed at the top of this document. When appropriate or required by law, we may provide additional notice of material changes.

Your continued use of Battle Buddy after revised Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.

If you do not agree to revised Terms, you should discontinue use of Battle Buddy.

22. GOVERNING LAW AND VENUE

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except to the extent applicable federal law or the mandatory law of another jurisdiction applies.

Subject to applicable law, disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or Battle Buddy will be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction located in Michigan.

Nothing in this section deprives you of rights or protections provided by applicable law that cannot be waived by agreement.

23. SEVERABILITY

If any provision of these Terms is determined to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law or, when appropriate, severed from these Terms.

The remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

24. NO WAIVER

VETLIFE's failure or delay in exercising or enforcing a provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision or VETLIFE's right to enforce it in the future.

25. ENTIRE AGREEMENT

These Terms, together with the Battle Buddy Privacy Policy and any other terms expressly incorporated by reference, constitute the agreement between you and VETLIFE concerning your use of Battle Buddy and supersede prior terms or agreements concerning the same subject matter.

26. APP STORE TERMS

If you obtain Battle Buddy through Apple's App Store or Google Play, your use of Battle Buddy is also subject to applicable platform terms and policies.

Apple and Google are not responsible for providing maintenance or support for Battle Buddy or for addressing claims concerning Battle Buddy except to the extent required by applicable law or applicable platform terms.

To the extent required by applicable platform terms, Apple, Google, and their respective subsidiaries may be third-party beneficiaries of applicable provisions of these Terms and may enforce those provisions as permitted by those terms and applicable law.
